Flatbed Trailers

Below is a handy guide to determine what Flatbed trailer is best for your shipment.

When shipping via flatbed, you have many options. We have compiled a list of the trailer options to assist you:

  1. 48’ or 53’ Flatbed: Continuous deck space.  Trailer is 5’ off the ground or dock high.  Weight capacity: 47-48,000 lbs.  Product height limit: 8’6’’

  1. 48’ or 53’ Stepdeck: Top deck is 10’ long and 5’ off the ground, bottom deck is 38’ or 43’ long and is 3’ off the ground.  Weight Capacity: 46,000 lbs.  Product height limit: 10’2’’

  1. Hotshot: These flatbed trailers can vary from 20’ to 40’ and they all have different payloads ranging from 10,000 to 22,000 lbs. Many of these trailers have ramps although most are not “air-ride” and not recommended for hauling equipment.

  1. Doubledrop: These trailers are used to haul high loads, product higher than the 10’2’’ that a normal stepdeck can handle. These trailers are generally 20’’ off the ground and the payload will vary from trailer to trailer.

  1. Removable Gooseneck (RGN): This is mainly a heavy haul trailer used to transport overweight loads or loads that can be “driven” on the trailer. The trailer can detach from the truck allowing the equipment to drive on.  There are variations of RGN’s but the basic has 28’ in the well and the trailer is usually 20’’ off the ground.
